About the role

Hostings House builds and runs the infrastructure behind Mumara, a high-volume email marketing and transactional email platform used by senders worldwide. We run our own servers, our own network, and our own IP space. We are not a reseller — we own the hardware, the routing, and the code.

We are looking for a Head of Infrastructure to take full ownership of that environment: servers, network, IP allocation, cloud, application deployments, and everything we build next.

This is a hands-on technical role, not a supervisory one. You should be equally comfortable configuring a Linux server, deploying a Node.js application, troubleshooting a BGP session, configuring a switch, and deciding what hardware we purchase for the next stage of growth. You will also work on our applications directly, using AI development tools alongside your own engineering judgment to build internal tooling and improve platform code.

It is a lead position. You will run the environment yourself now and build and manage a team as we scale — defining the roles we need, hiring into them, and setting the operational standards the team works to. You will report directly to the CEO, with real authority over architecture and infrastructure spend.

What you'll do

  • Manage, configure, monitor, and harden Linux production servers across the fleet
  • Operate virtualization and hosting platforms including Proxmox, KVM, and cPanel/WHM
  • Deploy, maintain, and troubleshoot web applications, APIs, and background services
  • Deploy and support Node.js applications and React front-end environments
  • Configure Nginx and Apache, reverse proxies, SSL/TLS, DNS, and firewalls
  • Design and manage load balancing and high-availability architectures
  • Own IP address management end to end: allocation, subnetting, reverse DNS, reputation, and utilization tracking
  • Configure and manage enterprise switching, VLANs, and network segmentation
  • Configure and troubleshoot IP routing across the network
  • Establish, maintain, and troubleshoot BGP sessions and prefix announcements
  • Manage upstream connectivity and routing policy
  • Diagnose packet loss, latency, and connectivity problems to resolution
  • Manage cloud infrastructure on AWS and DigitalOcean alongside our bare metal
  • Build and maintain deployment processes and CI/CD workflows
  • Configure and maintain SMTP and mail infrastructure at high volume
  • Troubleshoot mail delivery, queues, authentication, throttling, and sender reputation
  • Manage SPF, DKIM, DMARC, and PTR/rDNS records and handle IP warm-up
  • Build and test backup, disaster recovery, redundancy, and failover strategies
  • Implement monitoring, alerting, logging, and incident response procedures
  • Maintain firewall policy, SSH access, credentials, keys, and administrative permissions
  • Review infrastructure regularly for vulnerabilities, misconfiguration, and single points of failure
  • Track capacity and identify expansion requirements before they become urgent
  • Research, specify, and recommend server, storage, and networking hardware purchases
  • Obtain quotations, evaluate vendors, and coordinate deliveries and datacenter installation
  • Coordinate with datacenters, upstream providers, and hardware vendors
  • Maintain documentation and inventory of servers, IP allocations, equipment, and assets
  • Automate repetitive infrastructure and deployment work using scripting and AI development tools
  • Read existing application code, diagnose deployment failures, and work directly with our developers
  • Define the team we need as we grow, hire into those roles, and mentor the engineers you bring on

What we're looking for

  • 5+ years of hands-on production experience in systems administration, DevOps, cloud infrastructure, or network engineering
  • Strong Linux administration across a fleet of servers, not a single machine — AlmaLinux, Ubuntu, or Debian
  • Strong networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, subnetting, VLANs, static and dynamic routing
  • Hands-on BGP experience: establishing sessions, announcing prefixes, and troubleshooting them
  • Enterprise switch configuration experience, Cisco preferred
  • Virtualization experience with Proxmox, KVM, or equivalent
  • SMTP and mail server experience — you understand why mail lands in spam and how to fix it
  • Practical programming ability in Node.js, JavaScript, or TypeScript, including reading and debugging existing code
  • Experience deploying React applications and modern front-end build pipelines
  • Bash or shell scripting; Python or another scripting language is a strong advantage
  • Production experience with AWS and/or DigitalOcean
  • Load balancing and reverse proxy configuration with Nginx or HAProxy
  • Git and version control discipline
  • Ability to use AI development tools effectively while reviewing their output before it reaches production
  • Ability to own critical infrastructure independently and investigate problems without being directed

Valued additionally:

  • High-volume MTA operations and email deliverability experience
  • cPanel/WHM, WHMCS, and VPS control panel administration
  • IPAM tooling, IRR and RPKI
  • Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, or Ansible
  • MySQL, PostgreSQL, and Redis tuning
  • Server hardware depth: RAID controllers, enterprise SSD selection, IPMI/iDRAC, remote-hands coordination
  • Prior experience leading or mentoring a small technical team

We are looking for a problem solver and infrastructure owner, not someone who follows predefined procedures. You should be able to take an environment end to end — from an application that will not start, to a server out of resources, to a routing problem, to a switch configuration, to a BGP session that will not establish, to deciding what we buy next.

Benefits & perks

  • Competitive salary, negotiable based on demonstrated skill
  • Full ownership of infrastructure with real authority over architecture and spend
  • Build and lead the team under this role as the company grows
  • Direct reporting line to the CEO and a short path from idea to production
  • Exposure to production infrastructure and a network operating at genuine scale
  • Paid annual and casual leave as per company policy
  • Annual performance review and appraisal
  • On-site role at our Lahore office
